Type Locality and Naming
SUBSURFACE: The type section is in the Well CSP-1, Interval is 1163-2060m and thickness is 897m. [Original Publication: Mathur, R.B., Sreekantswamy, H.N., Ananthakrishna, K., Srivatsava, U.C., Biswas, S.K., Krishna, A., Bhosale, J.S., Rao, K.V.N., Satyanarayana, Y., Rathod, G.D., Bose, P.K., and Karwal, S. 1993: Lithostratigraphy of Indian Petroliferous Basins, Document VI, Kerala Konkan Basin, KDMIPE, ONGC Publication, pp 1-33.]. A Sequence of claystones and shales met in well CSP-1 above the Cannore Fm has been named as Mangalore Fm.

Lithology and Thickness
Claystone. Calcareous claystone / clays and shales with occasional argillaceous siltstones.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Lower boundary is pronounced unconformity. Rest on the top of the Cannore Fm.
Upper contact
Partly Quilon Fm and upper boundary is unconformably overlain by Trichur Fm.
